Hockey Alberta Path Forward 02.08.2021

  February 9, 2021

GPMHA has been trying to react as quickly as possible to the Government of Alberta’s information, which has changed twice in the last 56 hours.  We cannot provide the amount of any refunds other than to say they could range from 20 - 40 % of the base registration fee.  Refunds will depend upon the age division as well as our fixed costs.  We need a quick turn around on our numbers so that we can have the schedule ready for Tuesday, Feb 16.  We are working our best to get the players back on the ice as quickly as possible given the circumstances.

Base fees:           U5  $ 220.00       U7  $ 394.00       U9 $ 460.00    U11  $ 665.00
                           U13  $ 726.00     U15  $ 745.00     U18 $  763.00

The base registration fees that we collect from each member makes up 63% of our revenue each year and pays for 63% of our total budget.

The other 37% revenue is made up with the raffle, tournaments, casino and sponsorship dollars.  We do these things to keep the base cost of playing hockey as low as possible.

The COVID restrictions definitely has limited the 37 % revenue that we normally have to keep out of pocket costs down.  We have cut costs wherever possible since last March to save money where we can.

The evaluation/tryout fee U11 - U18 divisions paid covers the expenses of those evaluations/tryouts.

The $ 200.00 fundraising fee would have been recouped when you sold the raffle tickets.

The Development Sessions which will run from February 16 until Stage 2 is declared, and will include 2 ice sessions per week.  We will then react to the GOA Stage 2 guidelines.

For now - we will have one team per ice session, with half of the players on one half of the ice and half of the players on the other half of the ice, each with designated team staff.
The maximum on each half of the ice mandated by the GOA is 9 players and 1 team staff.

For now - all U5, U7, U9 and Recreation U11 and U13 will have their ice times on the weekends.
All of the All Peace League teams will have their normal ice times during the week.

GPAC and PCFAC will be advising their teams of their ice times.

We have secured ice until April 30.

January 11, 2021

We are sure many of you are aware, but please be advised that the mandatory restrictions given in December by the province remain in place until at least January 21,

https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx
The only change is that Alberta schools will resume in-person classes on Jan. 11 for all ages.

Not much has changed since our November 26 update that was sent to each parent.

We are ready at a moment’s notice to start up - practices for sure.

We know that Hockey Alberta has been in talks regularly with the Govt and trying their best to get steps towards normalcy.

However, it will be the Govt who decides how we will go back and what we will be allowed to do.

The leagues will control league play - the AA, AAA and Elite leagues have all been in contact,  changing schedules as things develop.

The All Peace League is waiting until they hear for sure they can have a schedule.

All of the re-doing of schedules that the leagues have gone through has been exhausting for them.

General feeling is that travel will be a huge obstacle that the Govt may not be willing to ok.

We have secured ice until the end of April for sure and possible to mid-May at some.

From November 26
We remain status quo until the next announcement.

As per AHS effective November 24, our shut down has been extended “for at least the next three weeks".    As we are provided with news, we will update our membership by Facebook, Twitter, Website and Emails.

GPMHA realizes that hockey can be a financial strain on our families’ budgets.

For all players, we are tracking our costs very carefully and will make sure that any excess registration not used during the time periods we have been shut down due to government regulated closures this season are accounted for.

For the Development, PCFAC and GPAC teams, the extra registration fee charged of $ 150.00 per player will also be similarly accounted for.

Once we have completed the season and have accounted for all the missed scheduled events for our membership minus any admin and non-refundable expenses, GPMHA will provide a refund to each member based on their registration costs.

This does not include team fees that are paid by members to their teams. This is a separate item that will also have to be looked at and made right as well.

We are exploring all of our options in extending our season past our normal end time.

Our raffle will be continuing as normal.   The office is open regular hours and has a mail slot in the door.  The arena is open regular hours as well.

For those inquiring about refunds due to COVID-19 shut downs, this will not be done until the season has been concluded.
